I don't know about you, but being a child in the 70's meant I knew nothing about summer camp unless it had a Girl Scout emblem attached to it and it was a day experience.
I eagerly watched the film Little Darlings and pictured myself at sleepaway camp in canoes, at bonfires and hanging at the lake. Once I became a grown up, I was able to afford to send my kids away to sleepaway camp for a few weeks each summer in Maryland at a place called Sandy Hill Camp. They LOVED it.
I remember dropping them off and staying as long as I could from the parking lot watching them splash around in the pool as their first activity.
Fast forward to me experiencing my first simulated camp experience at Wonder Valley Resort a decade ago. It was a co-ed week and had mega camp fun with talent shows and sack races. However the group running those ended up disbanding and I was left to wonder if anything would ever compare to it again.
I ended up hosting womens' retreats and decided one day I would find a way to get to Wonder Valley Resort. I would need to get enough people to rent the entire space out. It turned out, it was totally do-able and 3 years ago, we had our first Soul Retreat Experience at Wonder Valley Resort in Sanger, California.
We are talking swimming pools, archery and even horseback rides alongside all the fun spiritual experiences like sound baths and cacao ceremonies.
This ends up being the highlight of fall each year as 150+ adult women take over Wonder Valley for 5 days and 4 starry nights with Soul Retreat.
We laugh, we cry and we play together. We make magic with fire circles and grief support and everything in between.
It is such a gift to treat yourself to the ultimate self-care immersion of a Soul Retreat. I am counting down the days until September when the weather is cooler and the night air feels refreshing in the mountains.
See you at camp, I mean see you at Soul Retreat!
PS. Waterslides are always optional but highly recommended.
